Baker & Hamilton Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Napa Valley 2022
TRIPLE 93 POINTS for Baby VHR! We’ve got it at the BEST price anywhere (naturally) but Bad News Bears’ time…there isn’t a lot to share!!!
If you know Vine Hill Ranch, you know. After To Kalon, this just might be Oakville’s most historic vineyard. The Phillips family has farmed the site for generations, bottling their own Vine Hill Ranch wine for the first time in 2008. A slew of 97 & 98 POINT scores have followed, with the famously restrained Antonio Galloni granting the flagship a perfect 100 POINTS in 2016. At less than half the price of VHR, this estate cabernet is guaranteed to please!
This gorgeously approachable vintage of Baker & Hamilton wine hails from the Phillips family’s beautiful Oakville property on the east side of Oakville, near Dominus ($300), Promontory ($900), Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper (which was part of VHR in the past), and Harlan Estate ($1000+) to name a few. The flavors here are Oakville perfection in all its dusty, brambly fruited, warm, earthy goodness. Piles of black cherries, blueberries, and boysenberries make their entrance aromatically, with a subtle, oaky vanilla undertone. A swirl, a sniff, a sip, and you’re swept off to the land of plush red and purple fruits, boysenberry pie, anise, dried lavender, dusty earth, and ample baking spices — heaven, some might say. Or Vine Hill Ranch. Same difference, essentially. This is a pure, plush, exceptionally smooth (especially for its youthful age) Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon with an enduring and spicy finish.
It’s a STEAL with all this pedigree, too — did we mention the winemaker is Françoise Peschon — longtime winemaker for Araujo Estate who trained at Château Haut-Brion? Throw in a nod to tenured vineyard master, Michael Wolf (Harlan) and you have an absolute can’t miss! Grab a couple of bottles, you won’t regret it!
While it lasts!
