John Ruston is a long-standing Napa grower and third-generation farmer with a prized plot of vines snuggled into the foothills of the Mayacamas. Close to his 3.6-acre parcel are luminaries like Spottswoode, Andy Beckstoffer’s Las Piedras, David Abreu’s Capella and Madrona Ranch, and the ICONIC Hayne Vineyard — with many of these generous neighbors providing clippings of clones that thrive on Ruston’s land today. So, John’s plot may be small, the fruit is MIGHTY!!!
Toss in Napa’s HISTORIC 99 point 2018 vintage and you have the recipe for something special. Winemaker Robbie Meyer (of Peter Michael, Lewis Cellars, Jericho Canyon, and his own label, Pierson-Meyer) has pulled out all the stops and there is no question that this STUNNER should be well above $60, $80, even $100!!! Bright and lean red currants, raspberries, blueberries, and boysenberries — with all the red/purple floral aromatics you know and love. Dark chocolate and barrel spice rounds things off — and ROUND is just the sensation you are left contemplating! Gorgeous texture, and unquestioned quality…just looking for a home! At only $25 this might be the value-steal of the entire day…if only we had more!!!
