Yount Ridge is officially back and better than ever! Take THAT, Monday morning! Huh-to-the-ZAH, my peeps – I’m sauntering in through the warehouse like a 1.7 BILLION dollar jackpot winner, dripping with bling, cruising in my new hoopty, with an entourage that would make Ari Gold jealous. Ok…that’s not even the slightest bit true. But man, a boy can dream, can’t he?
What is true is that Yount Ridge is 100% better than ever. No cap, just facts. 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec, 16% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot combine like the Planeteers on Saturday mornings in the 90s – and the result is every bit as thrilling! (Those of you screaming “Captain Planet” are my peeps, and there will always be a couch with your name on it in Napa.)
Anywho, this 95-point BEAST is impenetrably dark, and absolutely jam-packed with chocolate truffles, kirsch, cassis, and a medley of toasty, nutty, and spicy characters. Soul-filling and warm, yet still brooding and mysterious – this big baddie struts around like it’s bedecked head-to-toe in black leather and came riding a Harley – but then proceeds to break out a children’s book and read to kindergartners. The vineyard sits on this stunningly gorgeous alluvial fan on the northernmost edge of Oak Knoll, a cooler Napa climate that allows for LONG hangtime on the vine, and plenty of inky color and concentration. Alpha Omega’s bottling from the same vineyard has long since broken the $150 mark, which is also where the Yount Ridge folks have this priced at the winery.
