When Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker’s former protégé, declares that Jean Hoefliger is perhaps the most gifted pupil of the LEGENDARY Michel Rolland…welp, you’d best pay attention!

To the uninitiated, trust your Napa Valley Wine Merchant...this stuff is off. The. HOOK!!! 96% cabernet sauvignon, 2% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. 26 months in 70% new French oak. 110% ROCKING Napa cab? YES!!!
The winery has this layered, sumptuous beauty selling for $120…just about the going rate for top-end Napa cab from duly famous winemakers these days. But HERE? Today? We’re lopping off a full SEVENTY-ONE DOLLARS…and tell me, who wouldn’t want Napa cab – from the marvelous 2021 vintage – at nearly 60% OFF?!?!?!
No brainer. Drinks like $100+ easy. Jean’s signature style of inky depth contrasted by elegantly lifted aromatics is stamped all over this – so DARK and mysterious, yet percolating with aromas of red cherries, crushed blackberries, and smoldering sage. It builds speed with a core of rich dark chocolate, toasted black pepper, and vanilla, with even more berry notes like raspberries and black currants. WOW! Talk about mouth-coating!!! Little flourishes of graphite and orange peel too – adding even more structure and a bit of zesty brightness. KILLER 2021 no question, and at our utterly silly PRICE?! Go…just, go.
** Jean’s “unicorn”, best-I’ve-ever-had wine is the iconic Cheval Blanc 1947 (I’ve never tasted it…but would faint at the chance!) which he argues proves that Napa can make age-worthy reds that even surpass the best of Bordeaux (as 1947 was a very Napa-esque year, warm, with higher ABV and lower ph than typical Bordeaux vintages). His ideal epitaph for his tombstone?
