Soléna Pinot Noir Winemaker's Cuvee Willamette Valley 2023
93 POINTS! Under $20 Pinot should not be this powerfully intense...but who am I to complain!
UNDER $20 for 93-point Oregonian awesomeness? Now that is worth celebrating! Soléna is a long-time Last Bottle favorite, whose wines have seemingly gotten even better and better these past several vintages. They routinely score in the mid to high 90s, and we always jump on ALL the Soléna that is ever offered to us. Small, family-run production, with a killer estate in the Yamhill-Carlton region of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, these folks are worth seeking out even at full retail. But when you go back – as far back as we do – these special beauties become a wee bit more special – ‘cause this price is INSANE!
And the wine is just as loco – believe me! Dark and brooding berries like blackberry and black raspberry, with mulberries too – all forming this core punctuated with heady notes of clove and cedar, with a kick of umami-bombing mushrooms, and some sweet roasted herbs like thyme and marjoram. Plenty of structure and power, with a zippy, lean bite of freshness that guarantees this will kick with the best of them – right now or 10 years from now! YES!!! That finishing little flourish of strawberries and white pepper really takes this all to the next level – but that price ensures that the little we have left is going to FLY!
If you LOVE Pinot (doesn’t everybody?), then you MUST get a handful! At this price – it’s simply criminal to miss!
While it lasts!
