Nicolas Girard Terres Blanche Menetou-Salon Blanc 2024
Menetou-Salon!!! This Loire Valley STUNNER drinks like top-notch Sancerre...minus the price tag! A Last Bottle favorite that is sure to FLY!
Crisp, crunchy, zippy, and utterly ELECTRIC Sauvignon Blanc!!! A stone’s throw from Sancerre proper, and this “Terre Blanche” is the same fractured limestone, ancient and fossilized sea floor that makes the Loire Valley ground zero for the brightest and best white wines in the entire freaking UNIVERSE! For just TWENTY BUCKS??? Epic.
Alright, newbies — I’m talking to you directly now — ‘cause the second the Last Bottle faithful, those Sancerre Supplicants, and Loire Valley Long-timers saw the name NICOLAS GIRARD…they jumped right to their cart and are loading up every bottle we have in stock as you read this…
So, read FASTER! Longtime Last Bottle favorite Nicolas Girard is our chosen herald of spring this year — and truly, you couldn’t make a better choice. Always exceptional stuff — zippy, fresh, and prone to leave your taste buds trembling — TERRES BLANCHE always seems to fall in my select two or three bottlings of what I’d wager is the BEST quality-for-value Sauvignon Blanc on this PLANET!
2024 was a cool and wet growing season across the Loire, but while yields were less than ideal, the fruit that weathered the storm has shown the potential for greatness. Famed wine critic Jancis Robinson called the season “a winemaker’s vintage” and I’ll put Nicolas and the entire Girard family in a WWE-style Battle Royale with any other winemaker in the region and let these chips fall with confidence. The grassy, clear, straw-golden juice slithers out of the bottle, and I swear — a spark of struck flint and smoky minerality rises from the glass straight away. Pure and vibrant citrus notes, laser-like precision, tart-but-sweet Granny Smith apples, lemon verbena, and crushed oyster shells, and — LOOK — just trust me here…if you like Sancerre, but don’t like paying 40, 50, 75 bucks to get it these days…consider yourself covered!
