Sancerre Rouge (aka, Pinot Noir grown in the Loire Valley) almost never leaves France – which is why I’m straight FLIPPIN’ to have this at such an unbeatable price! You folks devoured every vintage of this we’ve ever offered – and it’s my humble opinion that this is the very best I’ve tasted yet!!
Although Sauvignon Blanc is the Big Poohbah of Sancerre – approximately 20% of the vineyards here are planted with Pinot Noir – the oldest variety in the region, first planted in the Middle Ages. Similar dirt to the boys and girls in Burgundy, but colder nights and warmer days, so you get this zippy, spicy, black pepper-y edge. And it ROCKS!!!
Local goat cheese makers (the BEST in the world, by the way) set the bar of hygiene and cleanliness in their production facilities, and that uber-fastidiousness has bled over into the wineries. Clean, rigid, and simply laser-focused wines are the happy result – making this one immaculate bottle o’Pinot that you’re gonna want to pop again and again! While it lasts!
