Mystery Cabernet Sauvignon Happy Canyon 2022

MYSTERY CAB Saturday!!! Oh, baby — are you ever in for a treat! We’re talking about a 100-point winemaker, a single vineyard, and DOUBLE 95 POINT scores…for a whopping $111 OFF the winery’s price!

It’s that time again…your Last Bottle buyers have worked out another MYSTERY deal! We only do this every now and again, and only when the deal is sooooo stellar, with an absolutely HUGE discount, so we can lay hands on a wine that normally — NORMALLY — would never be offered our way. We redact a few of the choice and meaty details, leave y’all with a few enticing clues, and BOOM! A heart-stopping deal on delectable and collectible vino is all yours for the taking!

Today’s MYSTERY CAB hails from a rare spot called Happy Canyon in Santa Barbara. Ideally located between two mountain ranges, this little hot-spot produces some of Southern California’s tippy-top BEST Cabernet. Set in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Valley, on the eastern and inland edge of an incredibly rare east-west valley that just happens to contain four of Santa Barbara’s best wine sub-regions. Sta. Rita Hills, Ballard Canyon, Los Olivos, and Happy Canyon. While the others are best known for their Pinot Noir — Happy Canyon is straight up warm. All those ocean breezes from the Pacific either die off, or warm up…and the funnel of the mountain ranges dries things up further still as the elevation slowly climbs into the foothills. This means that, like Napa, Cab is king — and wouldn’t you know it, our Mystery winery happens to be based only a couple miles from my house, in the very heart of the Napa Valley! So — no matter which side you fall on in the heated Norcal/Socal debate — you’ll find something to love here!

Their winemaker is the 100-point leading man, the John Lennon of the Fab Four that guides this well-rooted winery. But the vineyard where this Cabernet Sauvignon grows is fit for a king — with 35 acres of vines planted around an old horse barn. The vineyard estate sells a little fruit from time to time, like they did here, but what they keep for their just under $200 flagship routinely scores in the 97+ range. But THIS?! Under $70 for a DOUBLE 95 POINT gem of a wine that flat out SLAYS!

I mean, the aromas! Lilacs and lavender team up with this bramble-patch freshness, as sun-ripened blackberries fall off the vine, with a whisper of molten chocolate caught on the wind. The first sip, even straight from a freshly-popped bottle, is pure silk — a gentle caress across your tongue bringing out flavors of baked strawberries, and juicy plums, and brown-butter caramel. Evocative hints of camphor, and white sage, with this accent of wild fennel, and even a bit of roasted red pepper, and green peppercorns…WOWZA! It simply OOZES luxury, with a soft mouthfeel, and lightly spiced finish that brings out waves of mocha, and cedar, and even a flourish of vanilla bean. No possibility of Swiss neutrality here — you’re gonna LOVE this! What a wine! What a MYSTERY!

Normally $180 at the winery, just $69 for however long this might last! Do what you must, and make this yours…TODAY!
