93 POINT Zinfandel at a full 56% OFF?! Ok…I’m listening! But even more than listening…I’m straight up TAP-DANCING! We NEVER get Keenan wines – and I’ve been a T-Swiftie teenage-school-girl MEGA-FAN for years! And that’s in spite of the fact that their Tasting Room Manager and her army of Bocce ASSASSINS have been beating the ever-living daylights out of my Big LeBocce crew for several seasons running. (That’s a big deal here in Napa – so you KNOW this juice is good!) For ONLY $22?! Insanity.
Keenan is one of those totally old-school, family-founded, family-run, and utterly charming glimpses into how Napa Valley used to be. No pretense – just elegant, age-worthy wines that magically transport you back in time. Since 1977, the Keenan crew has had their estate on the upper foothills of Spring Mountain – in the “just-right” pocket between Spring Mountain Vineyards, Fantesca, and Lokoya. Farmed sustainably, and fully off-the-grid with their solar energy – this is all about what’s in the bottle.
Good news? IT ROCKS!!! Bad news? They don’t make much of anything – and we barely have enough for a weekend offer. But the Zin itself is smack-you-in-da-mouth fantastic – loaded with peppery, uplifting, mountainous spice, and filled with a core of inky black cherries, and crushed bramble berries, with root-y cola-y herbs, and tart and titillating notes of pomegranates, blood oranges, and decadent vanilla bean. It’s hands down one of the Top 5 Zinfandels I’ve had all year – and my best mate makes the juice for California’s most famous Zin producer – so I taste A LOT of killer Zin. That you can score this for just $22 is more unbelievable than an OJ glove-fitting session…and the GLORIOUS 2021 vintage as the perfect little cherry on top? Fuhgetaboutit!!!
