BOOM! Fattoria La Vialla Casa Conforto is BACK! You almost NEVER see this beauty stateside – maybe in some high-end Italian Trattoria run by Danny Meyer or something, but man, this is RARE! Traditional style, old-school depth, full of finesse, high-toned complexity, warmth, and high-level crushability. THIS PRICE!! It baffles. The winery is an oasis some 15 minutes from the magical village of Arezzo and the wonderful attention put into this wine (Sangiovese mostly, with a bit of the local Canaiolo) is utterly mind-expanding with black tea, blood orange, cherries, ultra-fresh and mouth-watering, black plums, iron, violets and roses, and that signature dash of earthiness hinting at black truffles. SERIOUS stuff!! Light on its feet, too, fresh and pumping on all cylinders. I downed a bottle of this with a heaping bowl of Bolognese over the weekend and…WOW!! The perfect pairing.
