Five generations of farming, 120-140-YEAR-OLD VINES, in the most prestigious corner of CdP – on the lieu-dit of Les Bédines – and one giant potato-looking stone’s toss to Chateau RAYAS! Nathalie worked hand-in-hand with CdP’s most LEGENDARY winemaking consultant – PHILIPPE CAMBIE – for a decade before his passing in 2021. As far as mentors go – it doesn’t get better…and one sip in, I’m already wondering if CdP gets any better than this?! Seriously, I’ll take multiple bottles of this gorgeous, grenache-based beauty over those bigger-name CdP bottlings that will knock you back four or five times the price! ONLY THIRTY-TWO DOLLARS? For this? Larceny, good people.
We tasted this newest release with Nathalie a couple months back at her working winery in CdP and as utterly fantastic as it was then…can you say NEXT LEVEL? 90% bright and boisterous grenache, 8% super-inky syrah, 2% uber-spiced mourvedre – this is BIG! And bad, but in the oh-so-freaking-good sort of bad. Framboise, fresh-roasted coffee beans, blackberry compote, sweet smoke, utterly classic “garrigue”, then bacon-wrapped figs, plum tarts, candied violets, and…AND! This is layered up like a hockey mom for 4 am practice, and I can’t wait to see what this does over the next decade! I’m loading up my case, and you simply can’t find this fresh-off-the-boat CdP anywhere else in the USA! OVER 50% OFF! Châteauneuf-du-Pape doesn’t get better than this! While it lasts!!!
** I’ll never forget my first visit to l’Abbe Dine. We showed up at 8:45 in the morning, 6 MONTHS early for our appointment. (Pro-tip: outside of the USA 2/8 means August 2nd, not February 8th.) Nathalie was in the middle of bottling, plus her kids had the day off from school, and she went shock white to see us there, ready to taste. In the greatest recovery I’ve ever seen – within 15 minutes, we were tasting, with an in-depth behind-the-scenes tour, and her mom was en route with fresh baguettes, foie gras, house-cured olives, and the most delectable charcuterie and cheese spread. It was beyond impressive. **
