The recent addition of rising star oenologist Rémi Autier, now working hand in hand with the always masterful King of Cru Classé, Michel Rolland, is a recipe for success – and this delicious, simply classic style is without question the tippy-top BEST Château Cap de Mourlin I’ve ever tasted.
The flavors are savoury and smokey, with intense black fruits like plums, and cassis, blackberries, and mulberries. It’s a toothsome and chewy mouthful, with an imposing facade of towering structure and oodles of power. The aromatics come to life with some vigorous swirling, and…WOWEEE! Does this ever sparkle! The cedar and star anise, the clove and darker-than-dark chocolate sensations! Baked plum preserves, and smoked meats, the bay leaf, the sort of primordial molten asphalt and fiery brimstone minerality!
