Arnaud Gallimard is the unofficial Mayor of Champagne’s Côte des Bar, and he is crafting some of the most compelling and evocative Champagnes in the region at the moment. Utterly delicious stuff, laser-focused, racy, bubbling with buttered toast, shaved chestnuts, baked green apples, nutmeg, lemon curd, orange cream...DELISH!! The price…for bubbles like this?! Under $35? Inconceivable! I can’t speak for you, but I’m drinking a METRIC TON of Champagne this summer…and you can be sure this is THE ONE to load up on!!! I’m getting enough to carry me into fall – so 8 or 9 cases just might be enough… maybe. 96 POINTS, Bubble Monsters! For a deal like this…it’s almost impossible to believe.
I mean, C’MON!!! This wine SOARS, glides, and satisfies the soul like only Champagne can. 6 generations of winemaking, on a lovely and charming site going back to 1930. Blanc de Blancs from the same rarified soils as Chablis (which is not far), and one of five producers Wine Enthusiast declared as “redefining Champagne”...GALLIMARD! (I mean, just look at the featured headshot of Arnaud…I could sop him up with a biscuit!) This fine family is spearheading the Côtes des Bar’s meteoric rise to prominence, and we’ve been sharing them (and visiting, and drinking them) for YEARS! The wine ages in the ancient caves beneath the winery, with the sort of cobwebs, exposed stone, and patina of a bygone era that magically transports you back in time. The vineyards are meticulous. The precision that guides every decision-making its way into every bottle and every sip. Seriously, truly, the wines here are sooooo ridiculously good – as those of you who have been scoring these for years can attest! Not as much as we’d like…so run, fly, and flee to your cart!
