Oh, baby, is Cascina Adelaide ever BACK!!! We love, love, love these guys – been bringing them in for years, and always visit when we can (long overdue on that front…need a visit to Piemonte, stat!) We are one of the very few in the U.S. to have UNPRECEDENTED access to their top wines, and we purchase every bottle they agree to sell us… and then whimper, beg, and plead for more. You almost NEVER see this top wine in the USA, and if you do – expect to pay closer to the full retail price of $125. But UNDER $60?! Simply remarkable, and the wine...even more so! 95 POINTS and just a surreal treat of top-notch Barolo! Their state-of-the-art gravity-fed winery, tucked just beneath the hilltop Castello di Barolo in some of the most stunningly gorgeous vineyard land in all the world, has really raised these wines to the next level – and the major wine press has taken notice.
Just one, teeny, tiny problem…we don’t have ENOUGH! Cru Barolo is a favorite here at Last Bottle, and Cascina Adelaide too, and this is the first time in YEARS that we’ve had enough of the revered and iconic CANNUBI cru for a daily offer. Do. Not. MISS!!!
My word…the NOSE! Dried flowers, smoked hay, sour cherries, and baked strawberries…so delicate, so mesmerizing…just…man. The wine is light and soft, with a deceptive depth and slow-building intensity that comes rushing in like Ray Lewis in his prime. Plums, iron, and dry leather, with some juicy red currant and black cherry notes, with mineral twinges of graphite, and black tea, spiraling into an impressively layered and complex finish…WOW! This is simultaneously modern and old-school, monstrous and pretty, intense and subtle – a seriously impressive effort from one of Barolo’s best-loved and longest-lived crus. It’s drinking like an absolute champ right now, even, but HOT DAMN!!! What a future this wine has ahead of it! Get more than you think you’ll need – this is gonna be a hard one not to pull on a weekly basis – but the strongest-willed amongst you that can hold out for a few years (or a full decade) – you will certainly be rewarded!!! There goes my wine budget for the month…and we’re not even a week into June!

Don’t worry, there’s plenty of structure and intensity if you like them aged – but this is certainly one that isn’t shy, brooding, or reserved – even in its youth. **
