Benmar is BACK! We launched Pinot Noir Day into the stratosphere with another bottling from these folks a couple of weeks back, and we’re right back at it with the winery’s 2023 “Reflection” from the fabled Chehalem Mountains on the northwestern edge of the Willamette Valley. This is full, ripe, and powerfully rich – and it’s pretty easy to visualize exactly what Greg Bybee learned and loved during his multiple-year stint in the fabled cellars of Russian River’s Rochioli winery. Take the excellent, warm, and long 2023 growing season and you have everything needed to bring a bit of Russian River magic to the highest peaks in the Willamette wine region.
Kirsch and black currants, pine tar and cherries jubilee, with the soul-warming, generously toasty notes of lightly charred marshmallows, smoldering rosemary sticks, cinnamon, and crushed allspice berries. Hints of iron ore and crushed gravel build into a brooding and commanding finish, uplifted at the last by a flourish of grapefruit zest and crushed mint. It’s beastly and wild – but in the most suave and sophisticated way imaginable. Put this against the best RRV Pinot Noir in your collection and watch the fireworks!
